The Miracles Council would like to clarify that the employee’s birthdays have become official agenda items.
This was not intentional.
It simply became increasingly difficult to ignore the historical record.
Each June, someone eventually asks the same question.
“So…”
“What’s on the agenda for your birthday this year?”
The employee’s answer has become remarkably consistent.
“I’m choosing from the infinite menu the Universe has to offer.”
“I’m going to let it surprise me.”
Research Department initially objected.
This appeared to be an entirely inadequate birthday plan.
No reservations.
No shopping list.
No requested gifts.
No itinerary.
No measurable objectives.
Management requested additional details.
The employee declined.
Instead, the employee established an intention.
The employee had developed a working theory.
If the Universe was already conspiring to do something wonderful…
Perhaps it should simply be allowed to finish the job.
Research Department found this unnecessarily vague.
The Council voted to observe.
The first official experiment occurred on the employee’s forty-seventh birthday.
The employee had heard about a local food pantry.
Curiosity seemed like a perfectly acceptable birthday activity.
Upon arrival, the volunteers smiled.
“Oh!”
“It’s your birthday.”
“We’ve been expecting you.”
Research Department immediately opened a file.
The greeting appeared unusually personal considering nobody had previously met the employee.
The investigation remains ongoing.
The employee left with Trader Joe’s groceries.
Fresh produce.
Fresh flowers.
Vegetable plants.
Large bags of clothing that actually fit.
Research Department considers properly fitting clothing to be an underrated miracle.
The employee returned home.
The flowers filled the house.
The vegetables became a garden.
Crumbl cookies were acquired.
The employee reached an obvious conclusion.
If nobody else was throwing a birthday party…
The employee would simply throw one.
Neighbors were invited.
Laughter arrived.
Conversation followed.
Research Department considered the birthday complete.
The file was closed.
This proved optimistic.
One neighbor approached.
“Close your eyes.”
The employee complied.
A basket appeared.
Inside were birthday cards.
The employee selected one.
The front displayed four horses.
North.
South.
East.
West.
Each horse was a different color.
Inside was the silhouette of another horse.
The employee admired the artwork.
Research Department filed the card under,
“Interesting, but currently unexplained.”
The neighbor then spoke again.
“That car over there…”
“It’s yours.”
Research Department reopened the birthday file.
Immediately.
The employee looked at the neighbor.
Then the car.
Then the birthday card.
Then back at the neighbor.
The Council considers this an appropriate sequence of events.
The employee drove home.
Months later, another unexpected development occurred.
The employee relocated to Kentucky.
Research Department would like to remind readers that Kentucky maintains a rather famous relationship with horses.
The employee remembered the birthday card.
North.
South.
East.
West.
Research Department declined further comment.
The following birthday produced another surprise.
The employee’s long-standing intention of living in a beautiful, spacious home quietly became an address.
Not where the employee expected.
Not how the employee expected.
The intention, however, appeared unconcerned with geography.
The Council approved the outcome.
Another year passed.
The employee focused on healing.
Walking.
Recovery.
Nutrition.
Physical therapy.
Showing up one day at a time.
Then a neighbor appeared.
The neighbor wanted to teach body contouring.
On the employee.
Research Department has observed that the employee’s neighbors display unusually interesting timing.
The employee accepted.
One certification became several.
The body continued changing.
Even the employee’s physician eventually commented on the remarkable transformation.
The employee reviewed the available evidence.
“I think I got a new body for my birthday.”
Research Department was unable to produce compelling evidence to the contrary.
Now another birthday has arrived.
As expected, the Council asked the customary question.
“So…”
“What’s on the agenda this year?”
The employee smiled.
“The same thing.”
“I’m choosing from the infinite menu.”
“I’m going to let the Universe surprise me.”
Within days, unusual activity began appearing in the record.
The Ticket to Work program moved forward.
The résumé was rewritten.
Applications were prepared.
People began offering assistance.
Danielle volunteered to submit applications.
Charity began helping coordinate the process.
Doors that had previously appeared closed quietly began opening.
Research Department has tentatively labeled the 2026 birthday file,
Potential Career.
The investigation remains active.
After reviewing four consecutive birthdays, the Council has reached a preliminary conclusion.
The employee no longer attempts to dictate every detail.
The employee establishes an intention.
Takes the next reasonable step.
Then leaves room for surprises.
Research Department still finds this methodology deeply unsettling.
The Council has become considerably more comfortable with it.
The employee has also reached a conclusion.
The Universe appears considerably more creative than the employee.
Looking back, the transformation has been difficult to ignore.
Age forty-seven…
A garden.
Flowers.
Food.
Clothes.
New neighbors.
A car.
Age forty-eight…
A beautiful home.
Age forty-nine…
A healthier body.
Age fifty…
An entirely new career appears to be introducing itself.
The Council would like to note that none of these gifts arrived wrapped.
They arrived disguised as conversations.
Neighbors.
Phone calls.
Volunteers.
Unexpected opportunities.
And people appearing at precisely the right moment, carrying exactly the next piece of the story.
The Research Department remains unable to explain the logistics.
The Council has stopped requiring an explanation.
The birthday file remains open.
Next June has already been added to the agenda.
Management continues requesting advance notice.
The Universe has not responded.
